Good Food and New Running Shoes

Hi there!  I figured it was about time for a check in.  I know I said this last time but life has continued to be busy.  Since moving from New Jersey to North Carolina in April I’ve added teaching yoga to my schedule, and Josh and I have been spending way more time outside.  I couldn’t be happier… even though these things take away from my blogging time.  I have a feeling I’ll eventually find the perfect balance so I can have (and do) it all.  It’s just taking some time :) .  And, in the meantime, let’s catch up on some activities from this weekend.

Let’s start this recap with Friday night.  Josh and I decided to stay in and cook.  We had stuffed burgers and loaded potato salad (both from The Fresh Market), served with roasted summer veggies.

Waking up Saturday morning I wasn’t super hungry so I showered and got ready for our 10am meeting with our wedding planner.  I feel so much better walking away from that meeting and I know Josh does, too.  Our main priority right now is picking out invitations.  We’re leaning towards using Minted as we’ve heard good things and can also have wedding programs, place cards, etc. done with them.  I’ll let you know how it goes!  By the time we got home it was close to 11:30am.  I munched on some pretzel chips and jalapeño pimento cheese (<– current obsession!), and closer to 12:30pm we had chicken salad croissant sandwiches (we love the rotisserie chicken salad from The Fresh Market).

Man, oh, man is it HOT here!!  Is it hot where you live, too?  It’s been in the high 90s all weekend.  Poor Cooper just wanted to be outside on the balcony but it was a bit too hot to leave the door open (or to, alternatively, leave him out there with the door shut).  He opted for awkwardly standing on the couch with his nose pushed through the blinds.  Such a goof!

Around 2:15pm I took Cooper out to “go make” (go to the bathroom) before Josh and I headed out for our 3:00pm tee time.  Cooper ended up stepping in a piece of melted gum.  I noticed there were a bunch of pine needles stuck to his paw and he wouldn’t walk on it.  My first thought was that he had stepped on something sharp so I was relieved when I realized it was just gum… but it still wasn’t an ideal situation.  I brought him back in the house and Josh and I tried soap and water but that seemed to make it worse.  We ended up having to roll him over and Josh used scissors to (carefully) cut out as much gum as possible.  I really wish there had been a third person here to take a picture of us cutting gum out of Cooper’s paw… he was not a happy camper and I’m sure it looked humorous.  We made it out of the house and made it just in time for out tee time.  We only played 9 holes (again, it was SO hot) but it was great to be outside.


Josh joined a country club recently so I’m sure I’ll be posting more about golf.  I’m currently enjoying reaping the benefits.  It’s such a gorgeous club with a beautiful course, large pool and a wonderful restaurant.  After our golf game we sat out at the club’s casual cafe and enjoyed some cocktails and a basket of fries/onion rings.  I was too busy enjoying the view to take pictures of what we were consuming.


I’m happy to report that when we got home Cooper had gone to town on cleaning out his paw pads and he’s doing just fine 😛 .  Closer to 6:00pm we snacked on shrimp cocktail.

For dinner we had tuna steaks with brown rice/quinoa and green beans.  Not the prettiest picture but it sure did taste good!

Moving on to today (Sunday), Josh made us the most delicious (and most ginormous) cheesy egg and bacon croissant breakfast sandwiches.

This kept me full way past lunch time.  After breakfast I relaxed, folded laundry, and worked on some meal prep.  I prepped salads with romaine lettuce, chopped celery, shredded carrots, halved grape tomatoes, quinoa (1/2 cup), and avocado.

Around 2:15pm I headed out as I was subbing a 2:40pm yoga class.  I always feel like it’s such a chore on my way there but I’m always so happy to be teaching about 10 minutes into the class… and it feels so rewarding at the end of class.  After teaching I had a few returns to make at Old Navy and Kohl’s, and then headed to Fleet Feet Sports for new running shoes.

It’s hard to believe but my running shoes are almost three years old.  I went WAY too long without buying new ones.  The store associate who was helping me was super friendly and had me try on a few pairs of shoes, but I ultimately chose the newer model of my Brooks running shoes (these are the Women’s Adrenaline GTS 16 shoe).

And that brings us to right now… I’m sitting on the couch writing up this post and drinking a beer.  I’m just starting to get hungry from breakfast so I’ll snack on some chips and hummus before dinner.  I hope everyone had a great weekend!
