Happy Monday, all . Mondays are tough… especially when Daylight Saving Time is still kicking your butt… but I had a great weekend so I’m here to share. Be sure to share your fantastic weekend in the comments below!
I woke up with a tinge of dread in my heart. Ugh, it was Saturday morning and I had plans that involved me being on an 11:00am train to NYC to meet Josh’s sister, Jordana, and some of her friends for brunch. Don’t get me wrong… I was super excited to be heading into the city for brunch… but plans?… on a Saturday? Don’t lie, you know what I was feeling. Anyway, I got myself out of bed, got ready and even had time to make myself a quick smoothie which I enjoyed with a cup of coffee.
It should be noted that I later regretted this decision because about half way through the train ride I really had to pee. Anyway, it turned out there was some crazy parade on Saturday so the first 20 minutes of my train ride consisted of screaming (actually screeching screaming… just check out my Instagram) drunk people all drinking their way to Morristown. I said to my water bottle, “oh please turn into vodka…I’ll do anything…well…almost anything [insert screaming drunk person]…okay, fine, I’ll do anything!”
This tactic did not work and I remained alcohol-less. If they had been on the train for the next hour and 20 minutes going into NYC, I likely would’ve convinced one of the drunk groups to sell me some of their beer. Luckily, it didn’t come to that. (I would prefer not to talk to drunk strangers when I am sober.) Anyway, on the train I learned there was some new TV show out about people who have two lives… superhero lives and regular people lives, and, apparently, there is a couple that is suppose to be together. The problem is, they can’t remember what happened between superhero life and regular person life, and the girl loves the boy in regular life, but the boy loves the girl in superhero life… or something like that. I was very intrigued by this conversation. I mean, do TV writers just sit in a room and think “hmm, what storyline can provide a teenage girl the most anxiety and angst about people she doesn’t even know?” Anybody out there know what show this is? I didn’t catch the name. Moving on… I got into the city just before 1:00pm and then it was time for brunch at Sotto 13. YUM!
I fell in love with that balloon looking chandelier. We ordered from the social brunch menu which was such a good deal and the food was delicious. The french toast had rosemary in it which was such a pleasant surprise and the pizzas were delicious, too. I didn’t take any pictures of the food since I was meeting some of these people for this first time. I didn’t want to seem like a complete weirdo, and I’ve learned it’s not normal to take pictures of your food without explanation… and I didn’t feel like explaining. Moving on, we ended up walking around Soho after brunch (the weather was perfect) and we stopped in the Kate Spade store. Jordana was nice enough to buy me the Kate Spade Glitter Keds I plan on wearing under my wedding dress! Thanks again, Jordana! I loved the rose gold (left) but ended up going with the silver (right)… I didn’t want rose gold shoes sticking out of my dress.
Time flew by that afternoon and soon enough I was back on the train heading home. Josh had made himself a yummy steak and there were plenty of leftovers for me to enjoy when I got home around 8:00pm.
Waking up I knew this was a day to get things done. It had been a few weeks since we had done a deep cleaning of the apartment and I still hadn’t fully unpacked from our trip to Greensboro the previous weekend. I started with a quick Perfect Fit Chocolate Smoothie blended up with a frozen banana, 1 tsp peanut butter, cinnamon and about 2/3 cup of unsweetened almond milk.
Next up I completed my very first workout in over a month (since my procedures… in case you feel lost I never really talked about these and don’t plan to but I had two small procedures, didn’t heal well at all, and have been out of commission for over a month). I completed the You Got This routine from Cize and it felt so good to just move and burn some calories. I am so sore today, specifically in my calves. Totally worth it though!
Next up was errand time… well mani/pedi time then errand time. I went with a bright color!
I am getting more and more excited for spring… except for the fact that I haven’t worked out in over a month and have been eating absolute crap. Time to get back on track so I can be feeling fabulous by May! Back to errand time… my Trader Joe’s haul consisted mostly of vegetables since Josh had gone to the local meat market to get all of our protein.
When I finally got home it was close to 2:00pm and I was starving. I reached for two hot dogs (one with a bun and one without) and sautéed up some broccoli in a pan.
I know about 75% of readers officially think I am gross because I enjoy hot dogs. Get over it. I like hot dogs… at least I eat them with vegetables! Doesn’t that give me back some street cred? What’s that? I just lost all my street cred because I used the term “street cred”? Crap. Next up was laundry. There is still a huge pile of unfolded laundry (and it is now Monday) on the couch but I just couldn’t fathom folding one more piece of clothing. Next I did some cleaning and around 6:00pm Josh and I headed outside to grill up all of our meat for the week (half chicken, half flank steak).
Life has just been too busy to cook each night so it will be super helpful to have all our protein cooked ahead of time. While the meat was grilling I warmed up by the fire pit with a cocktail.
So relaxing! For dinner, we cooked up jalapeño turkey burgers with roasted sweet potatoes and roasted broccoli.
Sorry, the lighting is super weird and kind of gross in this picture. Okay, that’s it! It is far beyond my bed time which means I am going to wake up super cranky… alternatively I’ll feel super accomplished going to bed knowing I got this post up. Goodnight!
